Meteor Studio Student Creative Associate Position


Calling all current and aspiring artists and designers for a student position that is 10-20 hours per week. Do you hope to gain experience in various design tasks, such as UX/UI development, videography, web development, or more? Would you like to utilize these skills to help create augmented and virtual reality experiences? Meteor Studio is an interdisciplinary lab at ASU geared toward training undergraduate and graduate students into high-quality researchers and designers through a wide array of immersive projects. We are growing our Design Team at Meteor Studio in HIDA @ ASU, and we are looking for applicants who have experience in design and are interested in learning more about designing for Augmented and Virtual Reality! We are looking for people who are proficient in 1-2 (or more!) of the following categories and are interested in learning more.


  • User Experience Design/ Design Thinking
  • Video Editing
  • Web Design
  • Social Media Management
  • Graphic/Visual/Motion Graphic Design
  • Concept Art
  • Creative/Technical Writing
  • Photography/Videography

We are interested in individuals who are collaborators, capable of working on multiple projects at the same time, and enjoy learning new skills to solve a problem. If you know about the design thinking process or are interested in learning how to design human-centered software, then please apply!


The Design Team is comprised of an interdisciplinary group of students who are excited and dedicated to improving their design capabilities. The students in the design team are expected to complete work within 2-3 of these categories:


  • Maintaining and Updating the Meteor Studio Website
  • Creating Brand Guidelines for Projects
  • Creating Branding Materials for Meteor Studio and our various projects (Posters, Videos, Presentations, Project Assets, Photography, etc.)
  • Work on various projects to create visual assets (Concept Art, Animation, UX/UI Design, etc.)
  • Providing Design Feedback for Projects based on design strategies
  • User interface and user experience/journey review
  • Social Media Management: Copy, Video, Imagery, and more.
  • Digital communication, digital audiences

The design team member works across one or more project teams, ideally, one designer is embedded on 1-2 teams/projects where they act as long-term resources and team members. Day-to-day direction is provided by and supervised by the team lead (e.g., research lead); however, the Design Manager also provides oversight. As a design team member, you bring creative rigor to solve AR/VR/XR product challenges. You are a part of the Design Team at Meteor Studio, and meet weekly for a team Trello meeting, upskilling in design, and sharing your work to receive feedback. You will work closely with your Design Manager and project team lead and developers through the design thinking process to create Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality Software and Hardware Products.


Main Activities:

  • Attend group meetings and update teammates on progress.
  • Work collaboratively with other design team members.
  • Help your team translate insights into design opportunities within constraints.
  • Speak in a visual language and help others cultivate a strong design voice and point of view on where to go and why in a project.

You will be responsible for design deliverables like (but not limited to): creating design plans, digital assets creation, generating feature requirements, storyboarding, sketching and brainstorming, low/high fidelity prototypes, as well as helping create design standards for usage across Meteor Studio.
