(4) Demo Instructions Checklist

Successful Event Demoing 101

There is a timeline that should be followed when preparing for a demo, especially when it is involving multiple Meteor Studio projects. It goes a little something like this:

A week before:

  • Find out who’s all coming. Make a list.
  • Delegate demo-day jobs to those people
  • Make sure they know how to use whatever project they’re in charge of. This includes: how to deploy (in case of emergency), how to talk about it, use it, and possibly show it on a monitor

Side note: When demoing VR – we will almost always be using Oculus Quests. This is because they are very mobile. That being said, everyone should receive a basic quest tutorial – on/off/restart. And Library > Unknown Sources> NameofApp.

*One person should be in charge of all displays. This tends to be a last minute set up full of errors. So, one person should focus on this one thing only. It looks really nice to have displays and it attracts more people.

You will need:

  • 1 monitor per VR experience
  • HDMI
  • HDMI to Ethernet adapter (in case of mbAir)
  • **IF VR, bring Apple TV + remote
  • If you’re screen casting from quest, bring a phone charger!

This may mean that they need to know how to work an apple TV and an oculus quest. They will need a phone with the oculus app, so that they can screen cast, and then screen share from their phone to the monitor via Apple TV.

Things you will probably need in general:

  • power strips
  • extension cords
  • charging hub
  • charging cables, all kinds
  • hdmi
  • adapters for everything you can think off
  • a sign
  • meteor banner
  • image targets
  • back up computers, more than one type of OS
  • if the event is outdoors – Umbrella is your best friend (can’t debug in sunlight)
  • biz cards
  • lens wipes
  • a back up video of your VR experience, in case screen casting fails
