Guild Purpose
The Unreal Engine guild is united by a common interest in leveraging the powerful game engine to create immersive and interactive virtual experiences across various platforms and industries.
Unreal Engine Artists/Developers create and optimize virtual environments, characters, and gameplay mechanics using the Unreal Engine to produce interactive and visually stunning video games, simulations, or applications—producing high-quality creative work within project constraints.
Experiential Learning
Every member of our guild will have hands-on opportunities to practice:
- Setting up an Unreal Engine scene, game, and/or design plan, creating a reference document, creating an initial blockout, and iterating until its final form.
- Facilitating discussions, presenting to an audience, receiving feedback/critiques, giving feedback, and managing questions about the 3D model/asset design in a stakeholder-or-team meeting environment.
- Setting up a scene in Unreal Engine and creating or importing assets, defining the project's scale and units, setting up lighting, and arranging objects within the virtual space.
Foundational Knowledge
Every member of our guild will have the opportunity to learn:
- Fundamentals of the planning, feedback, implementation, iteration, and best practices.
- An interdisciplinary understanding of your projects tools: asset creation, level design, scripting with Blueprints or C++, animation, physics simulation, lighting, and optimizing for various platforms, all within the context of game development or interactive simulations.
Competencies
Every member of our guild can gain proficiency in the following:
- Excellent communication skills in both spoken and written formats, with appropriate tone and professionalism for every situation.
- Strong organizational skills to kickstart and develop a proper plan for assets, design, and creation for the project.
- Effective collaboration with diverse team roles (programmers, artists, designers, film crew, engineers, etc) by knowing how to "speak their language".
