(2) 120+ Day Terminations

Purpose

  • Student workers cannot be placed on a short work break.
  • Student workers are auto-terminated if they have not reported any hours within 120 days.
  • Even with a lowered FTE, if there are no hours reported, they will be subject to termination due to inactivity.
  • HIDA-HR recommends scheduling a meeting or some type of paid time periodically for which the student logs hours to keep them active.
  • If selecting the period meeting/work hours option, the student's FTE amount needs to be reduced to avoid ADA issues elsewhere in a position.

Student Notifications

  • Students may be terminated from one department, e.g., Meteor, but still working with other related initiatives, e.g., ICS.
  • Before students are terminated, send an email to the student, copy Robert and the respective HR/BOM so they are looped in.

Subject: Action Required: Student Worker Employment Status

Good afternoon [Student’s Name],

Thank you for all of your work and contributions to the team and the projects in which you were involved during your employment with the Meteor Studio.

Our AME business and human resources team has informed us that Student Worker assignments for students that have not entered hours within 120 days with the Meteor Studio will be automatically closed out in the system. This does not apply to any other positions you may hold within other departments at ASU, or affect your employment with other initiatives like ICS. Furthermore, this does not preclude you from being hired to work in the Meteor Studio in the future.

If you have any questions, please bring them to mine or Robert’s attention.

Thank you,
