Which computer should I be using?
Meteor will have 5 PCs (more coming soon) set up for remote access - Fuji, MontBlanc, Fitz Roy, Olympus and Sierra.
Ask your team leader which one you should be using.
What do I need to install?
Download Cisco SSL VPN from the website(you will need your asurite log-in credentials):
https://sslvpn.asu.edu/+CSCOE+/portal.html
How to notify Slack:
Before you connect, send a message to Slack on the PC’s associated channel #time-fuji, #time-fitzroy #time-montblanc, #time-olympus or #time-sierra
Example:
I am using MontBlanc for two hours starting at noon.
If you’re not in these channels, click the Add Channels button shown below and click “Browse Channels”.
How do I connect?
- Open Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client on your computer.
- Type in this ID here: sslvpn.asu.edu/2fa
- Then type in your asurite along with your asurite password, and “push”, “phone”, or “sms”, depending on how your default authentication is. Click ok.
You will then be prompted via your phone for duo authentication (mine is by phone, so I receive a phone call to verify) [Robert uses “push” to receive a Duo app push notification]
You should now be connected.
If it asks you for "Second Password":
If you see the prompt "Second Password" instead of "Enter the name of an authentication factor, you will need to open the Duo app and enter the 6-digit pin directly.
If you don't have the Duo app, go to this link, click on the Duo for students tab, and click Get Started:
Follow the prompts and then it will take you to this screen:
You must have the app - if you see the Second Password prompt, neither phone nor sms will work.
Remoting in:
Next you’ll want to open the remote desktop connection (type this into your windows search bar) For Mac users you’ll want to download it: Microsoft Remote Desktop
Now you need to type in the IP address of the computer you want to connect to. Check the corresponding #time- channel for the latest IP address.
- Fuji: 10.208.17.64
- Olympus: (coming soon)
- Fitz Roy: (coming soon)
- Montblanc: 10.155.195.253
- Sierra: 10.153.135.50
Click Connect.
Next you’ll need to login with the meteor credentials:
Click "Use a different account", then enter the following:
User: .\meteor
Password: sparkyasu
Tadah!
You should now be connected remotely to the computer IP you entered.
To disconnect, and not turn off the remote PC, simply right click on the remote desktop icon on your bottom tab and close the window to disconnect.
Lab computer rules:
-
Always message the Slack channel when you’re connecting to a PC (even while in-person).
This prevents conflicts if two people try to use the same PC. -
Don’t install/uninstall software or change computer settings without permission from the Slack channel.
Multiple teams use the lab computers, and you may break their setups if you change or uninstall critical programs. -
The common sense rule - don’t do anything inappropriate, malicious, or illegal.
This includes deleting other people’s files, accessing inappropriate websites, being risky with malware, breaching ASU tech policy, etc. Common sense!
[Note from Robert: You are allowed to play games on the computers! But work takes priority.] -
Do your part.
Help us by installing updates and keeping the computer clean and well organized folders. Install programs you find will benefit Meteor Studio in workflows and for improved efficiency and productivity.
